Choosing Comcast or DIRECTV

Ever since the creation of the television, it has been the top media channel in the modern world. In the United States alone, there are hundreds of millions of people who rely on television for both information from news and entertainment from daily scheduled programming. Today, a popular method of TV broadcasting is done via cable networks.

Cable television or CATV was commonly used in mountainous regions where broadcast signals are weak, so they used coaxial cables to broadcast television programming. Today, it is a common television service and in America and there are a lot of cable providers to choose from. Unfortunately though in most areas, you will just have one cable TV company serving your area, so if you want something different, you will have to go with satellite TV. This is not always a bad thing, its a good idea to line up the companies side by side, comparing satellite TV vs Comcast.

The top cable company in the United States is Comcast, it is by far the company with the most subscribers. It also offers internet service and is currently in second place and fourth place in providing telephone service. Comcast online deals are usually available to new subscribers. However, they have a reputation for having the worst customer service among any company or government agency in the United States. Next is Cox cable, which is owned by Cox enterprises. They have nearly 6 million subscribers to their cable service, internet and phone service. They are currently the third biggest cable company in the United States. The third largest in terms of revenue is Charter TV company. In terms of revenue, they are behind only from Timewarner and Comcast. Then we have Bright House cable which is the sixth largest cable TV company. Most of these companies now also offer local and long distance phone service.

Many are satisfied with the Comcast DVR packages, however if these do not catch your fancy you can also turn to satellite TV companies like Dish Network satellite who also provides high definition or HD service for those who want it. The only problem being it is sometimes difficult to get satellite in your apartment

Direct TV Raising Rates

Well it is the time of year when both cable and satellite TV companies are raising rates.Comcast got the ball rolling in November of 2008, with notice that they would be raising rates on their customers. Dish Network followed up with their own announcement that took effect in early February of 2009, also raising prices on customers.

Direct TV is the latest major pay television operator to announce a price increase. The DirecTV price increase will take effect in early March, and will raise the prices of most packages between $3 and $5 dollars each. Direct TV is citing higher programming costs as the reason for the increase. DIRECTV prices have been raised for the past three years.

All in all, the increase won’t break any budgets. When you look at it logically, they are basically raising the price of service about a dime a day, well worth it for most satellite TV subscribers who watch between one and four hours of television each day. Still, it seems as if consumers are getting nickel and dimed to death, even with the economy going into the tank.

On the other hand, compare Direct TV vs Dish and that will give you a good feel on what satellite TV will offer. One example is the price charged for DVR service every month. The DirecTV DVR is about per month, while Comcast charges upwards of for their DVR service. Fees like this really can inflate your bill.

DirecTV had another great quarter to finish out 2008. They added over 300,000 customers in the last quarter of 2008, while Comcast lost 500,000. That in itself show that DirecTV feels comfortable raising rates, even though consumers are losing their jobs. Dish Network will certainly have a hard time keeping up with Direct TV in 2009, as they have lost a key reseller, with AT&T switching over and offering Direct TV service this year.

ESPN Game Plan on Satellite TV

The television has been the most used entertainment device in almost all homes in the United States ever since it was invented. It is still number one media source in the home, though the home computer is gaining ground, and it looks like it will stay that way for a long time to come. It has bypassed both newspapers and radio media in terms of use and profitability. But pay television relies on a service provider and the two kinds to pick from are satellite TV or cable television.

Cable TV is delivered through optical fiber cables and coaxial cables. The major advantage of cable TV is that it the quality of its broadcast is not deterred in any way by mountains, trees or any other geographical features. The disadvantage from the cable company perspective is that it is very expensive to continually expand and maintain the wiring needed to broadcast the network content. Today cable TV is offered by more companies compared to satellite broadcasting. Such companies are Cox cable, Charter cable, Time Warner, Bright House cable and Comcast cable. The competition to be the biggest and best cable company will ensure you that you will get your money’s worth.

Satellite dish TV is the alternative to cable and is offered by just two companies in the United States. First is Dishnetwork and the other is Directtv. These companies rely on the receivers sold to their subscribers and they use communication satellites in order to broadcast their programs. They usually have more networks compared to Comcast digital cable and usually cost a little bit less than cable. However, the capital expense involved here are the satellites that must be launched into space. There are lots of sources to browse Direct TV Reviews and find out more about the company.

One of the nice things about satellite television is the wide selection of sports programming.  You can watch all kinds of football with the NFL Sunday Ticket.  If you prefer college football, the ESPN Game Plan option is the best choice.

The good news for any customer is that there are different choices in the pay television market. Whether the preference be based on programming, prices, packages or customer service; the consumer will be able to find a suitable provider for him or her.

Comparing Cable vs Satellite TV

Finding a good deal on cable TV isn’t difficult, that is as long as your not already a customer of the cable company.

The reason for this is because the cable TV guys want to build their subscriber base, thus they are ready to give you a good deal, usually for the first six months of service. The cable company figures if you get service from them, you may set up a so-called triple play bundle that puts all of your services together like voice, video and hi speed internet.

Often you can get a triple play bundle for just $99 per month for the first year. Here is an example of what cable TV company pricing could cost: Basic TV costs $55 per month, high speed internet is $40 per month, and phone service is $35 per month. With prices like this, your overall bill would be $140 per month before all of the taxes that find their way onto your cable bill.  An alternative is to subscribe to a service like Charter high speed internet and then add on Dish Network.

But what kind of problems can this result in Well consider what the bill will look like once your promotional period is over. You will have all of your TV’s connected to cable TV, your internet connection including your e-mail account with the cable company, and of course your home line through the cable company as well. But all at once your price goes up almost 50%, from about $100 every month to $140+ every month. Now is it easy to switch?

Maybe, maybe not. The best thing to do beforehand is compare providers before making your final decision. Lining up satellite vs cable television ahead of time is the way to go.

While you might logically say it is not a problem to switch to some kind of DirecTV deal or something else from your local phone company like FiOS from Verizon. Some things though are easier said than done. Usually the time and inconvenience of switching from cable to satellite TV makes the customer yield to whatever service they have. Even though the monthly bill is high, the subscriber stays with the company because they have all the services on the same bill from the same provider. That is what the cable television company counts on when offering short term deals to acquire the subscriber.

Basics on DIRECTV

Ever since its creation, Americans have always been fascinated by the television. It is a worldwide phenomenon and is currently the leading form of media ahead of print media and radio media. Even with the revolution of the internet, the television is still the number one source of all news and entertainment programs we all love and crave. From cartoons to reality shows to TV series, they all occupy our time and keep us entertained. There are a lot of different shows available however not all TV companies give us all the shows we want or sometimes give more than we want. Good thing there are a number of television providers to choose from.

If having local television just doesn’t work for you then the next option is to subscribe to a cable company. There are a lot of different packages cable companies offer and they have different channels. It may be Time Warner cable, Cox or Comcast cable, they have different packages to offer and it depends solely upon your choice as to which one is the best.

Then there is the choice of satellite television between Dish network and Direct TV. Satellite television today offers the most choices of channels and programs and they usually have more of the channels then cable television has. However, this is the most expensive choice as you have to buy a satellite receiver, unless there is a promotion. These days, there are plenty of DIRECTV offers out there designed to get you set up at a very low price, or no charge at all.

Whatever your taste is, there are a lot of different choices you can choose from to satisfy your every day television needs. That way you can be sure your family is happy with their entertainment choice.

Dish Network vs Comcast

Ever since the invention of the television, it has been the top media channel in the modern world. In the United States alone, there are millions of people who rely on their TV for both information from news and entertainment from daily scheduled programming. Today, a popular method of TV broadcasting is done via cable networks.

The biggest cable company in the United States is Comcast, it is by far the company with the most subscribers. It also offers high speed internet service and is currently in second place and fourth place in providing telephone service. Many are satisfied with the Comcast basic cable packages, however if these do not catch your fancy you can also turn to satellite TV companies like Dish Network who also provides high definition or HD service for those who want it. The only problem being it is sometimes difficult to get satellite TV in your condo

Comparing Time Warner vs Direct TV

Today customers of satellite and cable TV have literally hundreds of games they can pick from every month. While 25 years ago you would see a couple of college football games on Saturday and a few on Sunday, today you can literally pick from two dozen or more games every weekend.  Even the NCAA Men’s tournament has expanded coverage with the Mega March Madness package on Direct TV.

The motto today is “Content is King” and as the saying goes the networks of course want to deliver as much content as possible to the sports fan so they can make more money on advertising. Quite a few brand new all-sports channels have popped up in the past couple of years. A few of the new networks are Altitude Sports, which carries NBA Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche matches, and also the Big 10 network and the Mtn, the broadcast home of the Mountain West conference.

Sure these channels are good for people in certain regions of the country, but disagreements between the providers of content and those who deliver the content have resulted in difficulties to the customer. For example, the Big Ten Network started airing in 2007, but the network was unable to strike a deal with cable TV provider Time Warner. Subscribers of Time Warner in Illinois were not able to watch some of the home town teams play due to this dispute. Finally however, the parties came to terms before the fall football season, so customers could remain with with Time Warner instead of having to switch to one of the satellite television companies such as DISH Network or Direct TV.  An important thing to do when considering providers is to consider all factors, comparing DIRECTV against Time Warner.

Specialized sports programming packages are another option hard core sports fans should consider. The Direct TV Sunday Ticket package is exclusive to the satellite TV provider so if you want this football fest, you have to switch. This has left a bad taste in the mouth of some consumers, who don’t understand why a high demand package like this isn’t available to every provider, especially a big company like Time Warner. Other sports packages though are more friendly to subscribers, like the NHL Center Ice and the NBA League Pass, which are available on almost every cable TV and satellite company. Direct TV seems to have all of the sports programming.
